Billericay got the better of Woodford Wells in their Essex League Division One clash at the Toby Howe Ground.

Visiting skipper Jon Gaffney chose to field first after winning the toss and George Ellis (3-50) dismissed Nick Van Lint (21) and Lee Knight in quick succession.

David Houghton (67) put on 165 for the third wicket with opener David Hinnigan, before falling to Gaffney, and Ross Poulton hit 48 off just 28 deliveries, with three sixes and three fours in a 71-run stand for the fourth wicket.

Hinningan went on to reach 121 from just 95 balls, hitting 12 fours, before he fell to Ellis and the home side closed on 288-4.

And Wells lost Joe Johnson to Andy Smith to a third-ball duck, before Mitch McGee (38) put on 106 with Tanveer Shah.

Robert Rayner (3-36) claimed the next three wickets to fall, but Shah held firm to reach 109 off 139 balls before succumbing to Poulton (2-50).

Nabel Shaikh hit an unbeaten 30 off 20 balls, but Wells came up short on 261-7.
