Billericay got the better of local rivals Shenfield in their Shepherd Neame Essex League Premier Division derby at Blunts Wall Road.

Put into bat by visiting captain Jack Kliber, the hosts saw Aaron Curtis hit a six and seven fours in a 52-ball 54 as he dominated a 75-run opening stand with Saurav Prabhakar (29).

Essex staffer Paul Walter (24), Darren Ironside (37), captain Lee Knight (30) and Ross Poulton (21 not out) all made starts as Billericay reached 246, despite three run outs, with Essex youngster Jack Plom (3-42), Charlie Haddon (2-16) and Mitchell Edwards (2-51) sharing the other wickets to fall.

Adam Marchant (3-16) and Walter (3-45) reduced the visitors to 23-5 in reply, before Edwards (29) and Ryan Plom (26) steadied the ship.

But Shenfield slipped to 89-8 as Poulton (3-43) struck, before Tom Austin and Arshad Ali (22) hit out late on.

And last man Haddon also hung around to reach double figures before falling to Walter, as Austin finished unbeaten on 57 from 55 balls having hit two sixes and five fours.
