Ardleigh Green were comfortable winners over Basildon in their Shepherd Neame Essex League Division Three clash at Mopsies Park on Saturday.

Put into bay by their 10-man hosts, Green saw openers Tom Gentle (68) and Paul Hurworth (66) get them off to a strong start.

Chris Cook (38) and Scott Jackson (34) also made starts as Green declared on 240-6 in the 43rd over and stand-in captain Luke Edwards made the breakthrough with the ball in Basildon’s reply.

Trevor Oakley and Cook also had success as opener Steven Ayres held firm to make 67 for the home side before falling to Sam Brooks.

Edwards (3-21) and Brooks (4-40) worked their way through the middle and lower order as Basildon were eventually dismissed for 154 in the 52nd over of their reply.

The win means Green will finish at least fifth this season, but with two games remaining they could still catch Woodford Green in fourth.
