Upminster turned the Shepherd Neame Essex League Division One table on its head to upset high-flying Harold Wood.

Bottom of the table with only one win in their first nine fixtures, Upminster saw Ejaz Khan produce a superb spell with the ball as Wood were dismissed for 159 in 29 overs after choosing to bat first.

Khan made the early breakthrough to send Mdaminul Isalm Shihan packing, before Louis Pickering (2-39) accounted for Wood skipper Craig Perrin and Hafiz Yawar Afzal with successive balls to make it 36-3.

Shahbaz Khan joined George Bryant to steady the ship, but then fell to Khan and saw Mohammed Fahad follow one ball later to leave the hosts 74-5.

Khan also accounted for Hamzah Ikram, Bryant and Taqi Abbas to finish with 6-45 as Wood slipped to 102-8, before Juwel Roy rallied with some late fireworks.

Roy hit four sixes and four fours in a quickfire 48 off 38 balls before he was last man out to Oliver Peck (2-27).

Upminster lost Shahbaz Butt to Ikram cheaply in reply, but Farid Butt hit a six and 12 fours on his way to 68 off 75 balls as he dominated an 83-run stand with young Kiran Kullar.

Luke Hammett ended the stand, before Pickering fell cheaply to Abbas (2-56), who also claimed the scalp of Upminster captain Alan Ison for a rapid 22 off 10 balls, after a six and three fours.

Kullar kept his composure at the other end, though, and finished unbeaten on 37 from a dogged 114-ball innings, as James Evans helped seal a six-wicket win in the 40th over.
