Old Loughts to stage special tournament

A special memorial day hockey tournament is being organised in remembrance of former Coopers Coborn pupil Tom Wilson next month.

Wilson tragically died after a training ground accident last December, aged 22, and his club, Old Loughts, are set to stage the event in his memory at their Luxborough Lane base on Sunday, December 11.

All of Tom’s former clubs have been invited to take part on the day, including Havering, Beeston and Nottingham Trent University and organisers are looking for men’s and women’s teams to take part.

The playing format for the day has yet to be finalised, but Old Loughts have said they will try and accommodate anyone who wants to play.

Tom’s father Graham, a former Recorder journalist and past chairman of the Hockey Writers’ Association, also sadly passed away just a few months after his son and is survived by wife Lisa and daughter Pippa.

Any Havering members who might be interested in taking part can email president Pat Johnson at so the club can judge what teams to send along to take part.
