Romford club celebrates national title

Romford Hurricanes completed a perfect season by lifting the National Under-14 title at the weekend.

The Rom Valley Way youngsters beat Nottingham and Slough at the finals in Sheffield to make it 21 wins in a row.

And team manager Peter Billing said: “The team are over the moon at their win and completing a 21-game undefeated season.

“The team has had a fantastic year, the atmosphere in the dressing room was special right from the start of the season.

“There was an air of calm confidence and genuine belief that this was going to be a good year and so it turned out!

“The win is even more special that we have finally given coach Lenny Cole a National Championship after 20 years of coaching junior hockey, something he richly deserves for all the time and effort he has put into developing young players.”

Romford won 17 league games and a pair of challenge matches before their success at nationals, registering eight shutouts along the way.

Captain Glenn Billing added: “The boys have worked hard all year and have been a fun team to be with. Lets hope we can have more fun together in the future and carry on winning!”

The club are looking for sponsors for next season to either have their logos on team jerseys or provide backing to the whole junior set-up.
