Redskins earn Rom Valley Way scalp
Romford Raiders fell to a surprise 5-3 home defeat against Streatham last night.
Liam Rassmussen gave the Redskins the lead after only 86 seconds and Tomas Valko made it 2-0 before the end of the first period.
Valko struck again, 36 seconds into the middle period, forcing Raiders goalie Michael Gray to the bench to be replaced by Glen Jackson.
Joe Allen hit back on the next shift for the hosts, who cut the gap to one with a powerplay goal from captain Anthony Leone.
But Valko completed his hat-trick just six seconds later and Russ Stevens capitalised on a mistake by Tyrone Miller to make it 5-2 with 10 minutes remaining.
Player-coach Danny Marshall scrambled home a late goal for Raiders, but visiting goalie Will Sanderson made 46 saves in a fine display.
Marshall was left still needing three points to overtake Gord Jeffrey and become the club’s all-time leading scorer and will aim to reach his milestone in an English National League double-header against Bracknell this weekend.
Scorers: Leone 1+1 Allen 1 Marshall 1 Huska 0+2 Harvey 0+1 A Smith 0+1 Buckman 0+1.
