Young forward pleased to pick up more points
Young London Raiders forward Bailey Wootton was delighted with his three-point night in the 4-2 win at Streatham last weekend.
Wootton cancelled out the home side’s opening goal, then assisted on Ricky Deacon and Liam Chong efforts in the final period as Raiders kept their play-off hopes alive.
And he took his points tally for the season to eight, saying: “It felt great! I think I’ve played consistently well this season and my points tally hasn’t really reflected that.
“It was a nice feeling knowing I contributed to an important team win. I felt like I was a little slow in the first period, but as the game went on I started to make an impact, especially when I was given the opportunity to play on the powerplay.
“Streatham is a great rink to play on, as it is big ice and it suits my skating game.”
A third win in four meetings with the Redskins keeps Raiders in eighth place ahead of their clash with Bracknell at Lee Valley on Saturday (5.30pm).
And Wootton is hoping they can maintain their form in their last seven fixtures of the regular season.
He added: “We knew it was going to be tough and it was, especially with Streatham taking the lead.
“But the boys showed a lot of character and fight to win. What was really pleasing was that after they scored a second to make it 4-2, we managed to keep a cool head and shut the game down.
“The team is now showing a lot of grit and experience and will be a handful for any team in the league now. It was great to see a lot of fans travel to Streatham, all the noise and support makes a huge difference and is really appreciated.”
