Nine club members compete at Chelmsford

Nine Havering Mayesbrook club athletes competed in blustery conditions at the Chelmsford 10k event.

James Kidd was the first member home, finishing 33rd overall in the field of almost 500, and placing second among the under-17 runners in a respectable 36 minutes 16 seconds.

Sam Jackson smashed his best to finish in 49th place with 37:24, with Tony Collins coming home in 100th place in 41:55 and Luke Jackson finishing 146th.

Tracy O’Neill (51:10) crossed the line in 62nd place in the women’s competition, one place and a second ahead of Mo Lear.

Bobbie Westwood (51:57) finished in 72nd place, with Clare Rudgley 107th.

Team manager and coach Derek Earney finished in 60:28.

This weekend sees the Essex Veterans Cross Country Championships at Claybury, with conditions bound to be treacherous after recent heavy rain.

Youngsters Lois Wyatt, Jess Ward and Amy Baggs will be representing Coopers in the English Schools Cup final at Bolton, meanwhile.
