Lauren Deadman is heading to Slovenia next month after securing a place in the Great Britain team to compete in the European Cross Country Championships.

The Havering and Mayesbrook athlete finished eighth overall in the Liverpool Cross Event, which acted as the GB trials.

As three under-23s finished ahead of her, Deadman was awarded one of the two selectors’ discretionary places.

She also competed in the European Cross Country Championships in 2009, when she finished 29th and was a member of the silver medal winning GB ladies’ team.

It was another good day on Saturday for club athletes in the weekly parkruns.

Faye Fullerton improved her ladies’ course record by 26 seconds in the Harrow Lodge parkrun to finish second.

She was the quickest female, while team-mate Sarah Wilson set a personal best of 20.19 to finish fifth overall.

Kate O’Neill was another to set a personal best with a time of 21.20.

Matt Braybrook’s fine record in the Barking parkrun continued as he won again in 17.56 while Ian Anthony headed the field of 156 in the Southend event with 17.05.

The under-13 girls led the way with individual and team wins as the cross country squads tackled the second round of the Essex League at the challenging Basildon course.

Katie O’Neill clinched victory while Molly Bath, winner in the first round, had to settle for third this time around.

Katie Mitchell came sixth while Rebecca Brown claimed an 11th place finish.
