Upminster Women 1st X1 secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory on Saturday against Norwich Dragons 1st X1, clinching the win in the dying seconds of the game.
Upminster applied constant early pressure with the midfield first to any loose balls and carrying play to the Dragons area.
Quick reactions from Amy Byrne saw her intercept a cross-field pass and drive to the D, her effort going just wide of the post.
Following several penalty corners the deadlock was broken when Lauren Slater-Harvey scored with a precise finish just inside the post.
Dragons fought back, forcing Upminster keeper Charlotte Triggs into a save before the defence cleared the ball.
Dragons though equalised from their first penalty corner.
As the second half began, Upminster continued to dominate possession, forcing Norwich to defend deep.
With Alexa Marston, Byrne, and Freya Killilea controlling the midfield and delivering dangerous passes across the Norwich goal area, and despite multiple penalty corners and sustained attacking threats from Imogen Hodges, Killilea and Issey Uzal, Upminster struggled to convert.
With seconds remaining on the clock Freya Killilea intercepted a clearance, drove into the area, and beat the advancing goalkeeper to seal a thrilling late win for Upminster.
