Havering District Schools under 15s side lifted the South East England Schools Cup after overcoming Canterbury District Schools 4-1 in an entertaining final.

The South East England Schools Cup final was played at Herne Bay FC Stadium on Friday, September 11, with kick-off at 7:30pm.

Havering had beaten Ashford & Weald District Schools 7-2 in their semi-final.

Canterbury had reached the final by defeating South London District Schools 3-0 in their semi-final.

Havering dominated early possession and took the lead midway through the first half with a header from a corner.

Canterbury responded after half-time and equalised from another corner, finishing at close range after hesitation in a crowded penalty area.

The sides remained evenly matched for the next ten minutes before Havering restored their advantage with a long-range strike following a powerful midfield run.

Two further quick goals settled the contest.

Havering managed the closing ten minutes with discipline and retained their lead.

The victory gives Havering their first silverware of the season and begins a busy run.

The side will now begin campaigns in the National Schools Cup, Essex League, Essex Cup and Kent Cup.

This is the group’s final season at under-15s level, after five seasons together.
