Bentley Cricket Club experienced mixed fortunes across the weekend, with the first team beaten by league leaders Oakfield & Parkonians while the thirds produced a dominant victory over South Woodham & Burnham.

In Essex League Division Two, Bentley firsts suffered an eight-wicket defeat against table-topping Oakfield & Parkonians despite some spirited contributions with the bat.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Bentley posted 224-9 declared from their 50 overs.

Ash Parmenter led the way with an excellent 68, while Phil Coleman added 34 as Bentley looked well placed.

However, a middle-order collapse saw the hosts slip from a promising position to 158-7.

The innings was rescued by a valuable eighth-wicket partnership worth 61 between Matt Coleman, who made 30, and Glen Swinney, who contributed 26.

Their efforts helped Bentley secure maximum batting points and lift the total to a more competitive 224.

Oakfield & Parkonians were rarely troubled in reply and eased to victory with 8.3 overs to spare.

Unbeaten half-centuries from Dinayadura and Karunakaran guided the visitors to 227-2 as they underlined why they sit top of the division.

There was much better news for Bentley thirds, who recorded a crushing 208-run win away to South Woodham & Burnham in Division Seven.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Bentley piled up an impressive 292-5 from their 45 overs.

Liam Rawlinson starred with a magnificent 143, while Matt Crocker provided excellent support with 59 as the visitors took complete control of the contest.

The hosts' bowlers struggled to contain Bentley's batting line-up, with Dalby the most successful, claiming 2-58.

Any hopes of a South Woodham & Burnham fightback were quickly extinguished as Bentley's bowlers took charge.

The home side were skittled for just 84 in 23 overs, giving Bentley a comprehensive victory.

Martin Smith was the chief destroyer with impressive figures of 5-21, while 14-year-old Archie Giles continued to impress by taking 2-11.

Liam Adams also claimed two wickets as Bentley completed an emphatic all-round performance.

The victory strengthens the thirds' bid to consolidate the promotion they earned last season and continues an encouraging campaign in Division Seven.
