Upminster Cricket Club enjoyed another strong weekend, with the first, fourth, fifth, and seventh XIs all recording victories, while several players etched their names into the club's record books.

The first XI took a significant step towards promotion with an emphatic eight-wicket win over second-placed Old Southendians at Garon Park.

After being asked to bat, the hosts made a solid start and reached 80 without loss before Upminster's spin attack took control.

Shafiq Rahman removed Shaurya Singh for 24 before combining superbly with JJ Smuts to dismantle the middle order.

Rahman claimed 4-68 and Smuts 5-49 as Southendians slipped from 118-3 to 166-9 before recovering to post 205.

Upminster's reply was dominated by Smuts, who blasted an unbeaten 116 from just 65 balls after sharing a decisive partnership with Pulkit Gupta.

Gupta made a composed half-century before Gus Philpot's unbeaten 19 helped complete victory with more than 21 overs to spare.

At Upminster Park, the second XI were involved in one of the club's most remarkable matches despite suffering a seven-wicket defeat to Ilford.

Openers Mit Shah and Harry Jenkins rewrote the record books with a first-wicket stand of 325, the largest Saturday league partnership of the Play-Cricket era for Upminster.

Shah struck a magnificent 179 from 143 balls, while Jenkins finished unbeaten on 138 as Upminster declared on 343-2.

However, Ilford responded in equally aggressive fashion.

Captain Gagan Bhogal hammered 147 and, alongside Sevak Chaggar, who finished unbeaten on 80, guided the visitors to a remarkable victory with more than six overs remaining.

The third XI saw their title challenge checked by Brentwood in a drawn contest.

Chasing 269, Upminster reached 212-8 thanks to 64 from captain Dan Simpson and 40 from Ethan Berry before settling for a share of the spoils.

A five-wicket haul from Fenton Everingham helped the fourth XI strengthen their push for the title with a six-wicket victory at Benfleet.

Everingham's superb figures of 5-24 were backed up by Ewan Lowrie and Nathan Brown, who claimed two wickets apiece as Benfleet were bowled out for 125.

Steve Limn top-scored with 40 before Matt Ingleson steered the chase with an unbeaten 34.

The fifth XI maintained their promotion hopes thanks to a record-breaking display from Rob Evans.

His outstanding figures of 8-26 were the best by an Upminster fifth XI bowler in the Play-Cricket era as Belhus were dismissed for 161.

Ian Munn's unbeaten 53 then guided Upminster to a four-wicket win.

There were mixed fortunes elsewhere.

The sixth XI remain top of Mid Essex Division Nine despite a seven-wicket defeat to Southend, with Nathan French making 91 and Patrick Gulvin 45.

The seventh XI bounced back with a victory over Benfleet thanks to half-centuries from Billy Sheridan (60) and Chris Brabin (78), while Brabin later claimed 5-53 as the visitors were bowled out for 174.

The Friendly XI also celebrated success, defeating West Mersea by eight wickets after George Ashlin recorded his maiden senior half-century.
