Romford Walking FC's women's team recently completed their Essex Women's Walking Football League campaign with a creditable mid-table finish.

The side of Elaine Shervill, Nicola Seabrook, Suzanne Levy, Jane Alexander, Georgina Wiseman, Michelle Harris, Joan Richards, Louise Bixby, and Alison Harrold began with a goalless draw against Billericay Reds before earning an entertaining 2-2 draw with Beacon Hill, thanks to goals from Bixby and Harrold.

Romford then beat Valley Green 1-0 through a Richards winner before suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Stanway Rovers.

Their final two matches also ended in defeat, losing 1-0 to champions Billericay Whites and 2-0 to runners-up Harlow Town.

It was an encouraging campaign in only the team's second season, having improved from bottom place last year to a mid-table finish.

The Romford Over-65s, represented by Neil Clements, Tom Lemon (captain), Mick Howard, Charlie Waters, Ray Sapsford, Bob Driscoll, Mick Tillet, Paul Poole, and Sean Mallet, took part in the latest Essex Walking Football League Division Two fixtures at Billericay FC.

They opened with a frustrating 1-0 defeat to Leyton Orient after conceding a penalty under the four-running offence rule.

Romford were later awarded a spot-kick themselves but were denied by an excellent save.

Boro responded with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against division leaders Beacon Hill Rovers before producing their best performance since manager Bob Callis took charge.

Goals from Poole, Lemon, and Tillet secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Blackmore Athletic.

Romford finished the day with a 1-0 win against Southend United, Lemon scoring the decisive goal.

The side currently sit fourth in the table with three games remaining.

Callis described it as "a very professional performance" after the opening defeat.

The Over-65s also saw their Walking Football Association National Cup campaign end in the third round against Aylesbury United at Powerleague Romford.

Represented by Paul Poole, Lemon (captain), Paul Downes, Tillet, Liam Flanagan, Mallet, Steve Goodman, and Sapsford, Romford gradually grew into the game after Aylesbury dominated possession early on.

The sides remained level at half-time.

Aylesbury took control after the break and scored twice before Romford came close to replying, seeing one effort saved and another strike the outside of the post.

A third goal from the visitors ended any hopes of a comeback as Aylesbury progressed with a 3-0 victory.

Callis said the match had provided valuable experience against strong opposition from another league.
