Bentley CC endured mixed fortunes across their senior sides on Saturday, with the 3rd XI recording an emphatic victory, the 2nd XI slipping to defeat at Roding Valley and the 1st XI suffering a setback against Old Brentwoods.

The standout performance came from the 3rd XI, who secured back-to-back victories with a commanding 108-run win at Great Baddow in Trippon Mid Essex League Division 7.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Bentley posted 192-6 from their 45 overs thanks largely to Matt Crocker's excellent 68 and 45 from Ross Harder.

Great Baddow's Garland was the pick of the bowlers with 3-23.

Bentley's bowlers then took complete control.

Fourteen-year-old Alex Pulford produced an impressive spell of 4-21, while Ameya Kotian claimed 2-10 as Great Baddow collapsed to 84 all out in 27.3 overs, sealing a comprehensive victory for the visitors.

The 2nd XI saw their four-match unbeaten run come to an end with a six-wicket defeat at Roding Valley in Hamro Foundation Essex League Division Three.

Asked to bat first, Bentley were dismissed for 222 in 42.4 overs.

Richard Redman led the way with 83, Ollie Gordon added 52 and captain Mark Carter contributed 34, but the total proved below par on the day.

Roy (4-14) and Hameed (3-15) were the chief wicket-takers for the hosts.

Roding Valley made light work of the chase, reaching 223-4 with plenty of overs to spare.

Choudhury struck 71 and Sonchoy added 26 as Bentley were unable to apply sustained pressure despite wickets from Kirkpatrick and H Pulford.

The 1st XI also endured a difficult afternoon, suffering a five-wicket defeat against Old Brentwoods in a match which left them still searching for points at the foot of the table.

Bentley were dismissed for 220 after contributions from Ash Parmentor and Phil Coleman, before Old Brentwoods reached their target with five wickets in hand despite resistance from Bentley's bowlers.

While it was a disappointing day for the club's top two sides, the 3rd XI's convincing success ensured there was still plenty to celebrate for Bentley heading into the next round of fixtures.
