Havering AC win 25 medals at Essex Schools Championships

Havering AC athletes delivered an outstanding set of performances at the Essex Schools Championships in Chelmsford on Saturday, collecting an impressive 25 podium finishes in warm but breezy conditions.

The medal haul got off to the perfect start in the opening event of the day, as Abigail Adegite produced a superb run to claim gold in the Under-16 girls’ 300m hurdles slashing more than two seconds off her personal best.

Amelie Shearing added a bronze in the same event, while Amy Mansell followed up with a silver medal in the Under-18 women’s 400m hurdles, also improving her best by over two seconds to achieve the English Schools qualifying standard.

There was further success over the hurdles, with Simeon Barker taking gold in the Under-18 men’s 110m hurdles and Joshua Buxton winning the Wnder-16 100m hurdles.

Both athletes will now hope to secure selection for the Essex team at the English Schools Championships.

Oma Nwapa claimed an Under-18 women’s 100m hurdles bronze alongside a personal best, while Siobhan Etemadi twice improved her mark on her way to bronze in the Under-16 80m hurdles.

Ameer Salaam and Sam Johnson dominated the intermediate boys’ shot to take gold and silver respectively, both with personal bests.

Eboni Roach added gold in the senior girls’ shot, while Ayla Baker secured victory in the intermediate girls’ javelin with a season’s best and Jess Page finished third.

Reggie Marshall earned intermediate discus bronze with a new personal best, while Keira Atwood-Kelly and Kia Hylton-Jones both claimed silvers in the junior javelin and shot respectively.

On the track, Aidan Doherty struck gold in the intermediate boys’ 800m, while Jack Rossington powered to a personal best to take junior boys’ bronze over the same distance.

Orla Friel and Grace Tilson both claimed silver medals in the steeplechase in their respective age groups, while Millie Cook (junior 300m) and Ava McMillian (junior 200m) added a silver and bronze.

The field events continued to deliver medals, with Bode Thompson clearing a personal best for intermediate high jump silver, Emanuel Iwuchukwu taking intermediate triple jump silver, and Sonny Hurrell leaping to a personal best for intermediate long jump bronze.

Derin Okubanjo rounded off the medal success with junior triple jump bronze.
