RYAN Scott is celebrating his third successive promotion after helping Hornchurch win the Isthmian League Premier Division title.

After going up two years in a row with Aveley, Scott has now also enjoyed a season to remember with the Urchins.

But the defender remains hungry for more.

“It’s three promotions in three seasons and a league cup in there as well, but who’s counting!” he said.

“It probably won’t be until I’m finished I really look back and appreciate the achievement but for now I’m still hungry for more.”

Hornchurch have topped the table for the majority of the season after starting the campaign with a 17-match unbeaten run under Steve Morison.

And Scott is rightfully delighted with the levels of consistency on show.

“It’s a really proud moment for me and a great achievement for the club,” he added.

“The consistency and hard work of the group and staff has paid off and you look back on all the late nights knowing your goal was reached and it was worthwhile.

“A lot of pressure was on us to hit the heights from the start of the season and we have led pretty much all the way.”

Hornchurch have now triumphed 29 times in 40 league outings this season and Scott feels the fitness levels of the side have proved key.

“There is a great core of players and people around the club who gave us a great foundation to help the newer players hit the ground running from the summer, myself included,” said Scott.

“It’s been one of the hardest seasons I’ve had in terms of the level of training and running and we have won so many games late on, it definitely paid off.

“Apart from that just the togetherness of the group for me has been massive, especially when Steve Morison left for Sutton.

“We could easily have folded in that time but stood strong.”

Daryl McMahon was appointed as boss in late January after Morison’s exit, but he could not stop the Urchins suffering a surprise 4-1 defeat at 17th-placed Canvey Island on Tuesday.

And Scott admitted it had been tough to maintain the same level of intensity after being crowned champions.

“It’s certainly not been easy to maintain our levels since we won the league,” said Scott.

“But we really let ourselves down at Canvey so apologies to anyone who paid to come and see that.

“The fans have been class all year supporting us home and away and that performance was miles below par.

“But we’ve got two big games left to try and reach our target of 100 points in the club’s 100th year and end on a positive note.”

Hornchurch head to Potters Bar this weekend before ending the season at home to Kingstonian.

However, Scott will take his time before looking forward to next season.

“I’m more looking forward to a few weeks rest currently, being truthful,” said Scott.

“I’ve played every league game so far so a little break is needed.

“By that time the excitement for the new season starts to grow and I’ll dust off the running trainers again.”
