Romford are now just two games from Wembley and the final of the FA Vase - and manager Dan Spinks is loving having the spotlight on the club.

A 1-0 win away to North Greenford United has put Boro into the semi-finals, where they will play Lincoln United over two legs.

Spinks said: "I was emotionally drained after from the build-up all week, being on the phone trying to get into forward in and all sorts of things.

"Nothing seemed to go well for us, we arrived late and I thought it was just going to be one of them days.

"But it was absolutely brilliant, brilliant for the boys, brilliant for the fans and brilliant for the club.

"Just for ‘little Romford’ to be spoken about. There's a lot of big clubs around here that get all the talk, but it's nice to be the talk of the town at the moment."

And it is not just Romford that are getting the plaudits, with league rivals Great Wakering Rovers in the other semi-final against tournament favourites Worcester City.

Spinks said: "It's brilliant for the Essex Senior League to have us and Wakering in the semis.

"I'm glad we've not been drawn against them because and I know it sounds silly, but you get this far, you want to go to a different ground with a team from a different league.

"We’ve barely been outside the M25 in this run so it’s nice to get Lincoln.

"We’re looking forward to it and planning for it - what we do, how we get there and everything else.

"We would have taken anyone though, we know we have to beat two of the three to win it.

"We’ve got Wakering next week anyway and now there's an opportunity to play them in the final which would be great."

As for the match itself, Remi Sutton got the winner in the first half but the performance of striker Darren Phillips took the plaudits.

Spinks said: "Remi’s been excellent since he came in. I think that's nine games he’s played for us and we’ve won all nine.

"He was excellent again on the day, but credit goes to Darren Phillips.

"We never had a centre-forward. Hassan's been one of our best players all season. He’s our top scorer and our focal point of every single game.

"We discussed whether we changed the game plan, whether we would come away from that but in the end we went with big Darren and he was excellent. They could not handle him.

"He caused so many problems from the first minute and the score line doesn't represent the game, to be honest with you.

"We should have won three or four-nil, we had plenty of chances, but the boys were solid and we don’t look like conceding too many.

"And as I say, in these big games they keep giving me the big results."
