As the Everyone Active Raiders prepare for a crucial weekend in their hockey campaign, forward Jacob Ranson has stressed the significance of securing points against fellow contenders Telford Tigers and Sheffield Steeldogs.

The 28-year-old has full confidence the goals can be achieved, having been impressed by the team's performances during a challenging stretch of fixtures against the league's top four teams.

It has left Raiders ninth in the National League table, just one point behind both Solway Sharks and Bees IHC, and with a game in hand on both sides.

"It’s been a tough run," he said, "but we’ve really stepped up in our last few games and managed to collect points from the league's top teams.

"However, all of that will count for little if we don’t capitalise on opportunities against the teams around and below us.

"Both Telford and Sheffield are formidable opponents, having reached the final four in Coventry last season alongside us."

Raiders suffered a narrow 5-4 overtime loss to league leaders Leeds Knights on Friday night, with Adam Laishram scoring two goals, supported by contributions from Jake Sylvester and Coy Prevost.

Ranson said: "I felt we dominated the game on Friday night, delivering a solid defensive performance and an all-around strong display against the league leaders.

"We were unlucky not to secure the win, as that’s what we deserved."

However, the team bounced back with an impressive 8-2 victory over Hull Seahawks on Sunday evening, with Brandon Ayliffe scoring twice, complemented by goals from Blahoslav Novak, Laishram, Tjay Anderson, George Norcliffe, Mikey Power and Jesper Eriksson, scoring his first for the club.

"Sunday's win ended Hull's 10-game unbeaten streak, which is a significant boost to our confidence," Ranson added.

"Our consistent performances against top teams in the league have been rewarding and if we maintain this level of play, we anticipate more positive results.

"Staying focused and sustaining our defensive solidity will be key factors in our continued success against strong opposition."
