The new-look Romford Women fashioned a second consecutive 4-0 road victory as they swept past Corinthians in league action on Sunday.

With four debutants on the pitch one might have expected a slow start from the visitors but they were ahead after just two minutes when leading scorer Shannon Simpson latched on to a pass from new arrival Chloe Attwaters-Watson to open her account for the day.

Just six minutes later that lead was doubled when a Chloe Eastwell free-kick was put through her own goal by a Corinthians defender and Boro were firmly in control.

Elsewhere there were encouraging first outings for Emily Beard, Grace Ludlow and Francisca Laufaurie-Tull as the reshaping of the squad continues after the departure of former manager Jason Murray.

With regular goalkeeper Jamie Williams absent, duties were shared between Venetia Stuart, Evie Doyle-Love and Attwaters-Watson and remarkably they kept a combined clean sheet, the third in succession for the Boro Belles.

The front three of Simpson, Sammi Kuski and Sharmari Crawford were a continual threat and the home keeper was forced into a number of saves to keep the deficit at just two.

However, the interval came and went without any further additions to the scoreline and the home side battled back in the second half to pose more of a threat.

With 81 minutes on the clock, however, Stuart bagged her first goal of the season with a fine left-footed strike to wrap up the points.

There was still action to come as Corinthians rattled the crossbar from distance, but the final say was to be had by Simpson who darted on to a through ball and slotted calmly home for her second of the day and ninth goal in her last four games.

Stand-in skipper Simpson said: “Given that we’re pushing for promotion we knew that nothing could stop us going for three important points today.

"We saw four young girls on debut here and they immediately adapted to our way of playing, which was great.

"You can already see that they are worthy of being regulars in the first-team squad and that is going to be important in the run-in to the end of the year, starting next week with a huge game against Chelmsford.”
