Upminster Cricket Club saw Hunter Hurricanes retain their Windmill Whack crown with victory over Elite Eagles on Sunday.

The two teams had also met in the 2022 final of the 20-over competition, with Eagles beating Govani Maestros in the eliminator to set up the repeat showdown.

Their 203-5 total (net 163) proved beyond Maestros, who replied with 187-8 (net 123).

And Eagles were put into bat in the final, with Jamie Green showing good form alongside captain Dan Tyler.

Late fireworks from Ben Hamberger lifted the Eagles total to 179-8 (net 115), but Tom Daniels and Harry Lawes got Hurricanes off to a steady start before Ollie Burley and Gus Siggins raised the tempo.

Max Carter-Miller hit 49 from just 17 balls as Ant Limn's side finished on 155-0 to defend their title.

"We must thank all of our Whack captains for their work during the season, Harry Jenkins our tournament director, everyone who umpired and scored at games and grounds executive Mark Severn for preparing wickets perfect for this type of cricket," said a club spokesperson.

"The competition would not be possible without the hugely generous support of all of our franchise sponsors - Hunter & Co Accountants, Apple Financial Solutions, Elite Finishing, Govani Family Chemists, Kushoom Bugh Tandoori Restaurant and Mullis & Peake Solicitors."
