Romford Boxing Club enjoyed success during a team match at the North Romford Community Centre in Collier Row on Saturday.

Bradley McDarmard was first into the ring for the host club, making his debut at 70kg against an Icelandic rival who was also having his first taste of competitive action.

And after an even contest, McDarmard finished the stronger of the pair to earn a well-deserved victory.

Tope Adedokun was up next and started well but was eventually beaten by his rival from the East London Boxing Academy before an interval.

London super-heavyweight champion Ayo Barek was Romford's third boxer in action and up against a very tough Icelandic fighter.

And after a slow start, which saw him concede the first round, big-hitting Barek took control of the second round with some tremendous right hands which caused his opponent to hang on and take a standing eight count.

The visitor struggled to get to the bell and Barek produced a strong final round to deservedly earn the decision.

"Ayo once again showed what a good prospect he is," said coach Paul Claydon.

"He's the best super-heavy in the area by a long shot and hopefully will do well in this year's senior championships."

Pelumi Adedokun met an East London BA rival at 82kg and took control in a rousing second round, only to fade in the final round and drop the points decision.

London cruiserweight champion Tim Olla was the fifth and final Romford boxer in action and involved in a very tough bout with multi Irish title holder and former professional Steve Collins Jr, who is now back in the amateur ranks.

It was Olla's first outing as a senior heavyweight but in a tough, gruelling contest he finished strongly to catch his opponent with good punches in flurries to earn the decision.
