Hornchurch youngster needs funds to be able to travel to Thailand to compete for Great Britain

Chloe Guirey has been selected as one of 15 juniors to represent a Great Britain squad at the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur (I.F.M.A) World Finals in Thailand this August but she needs to raise funds to compete in the event.

Fighters only receive a few hundred pounds towards the cost and money is needed for flights, accommodation, training fees and food and it is estimated the Guirey family need to raise £2000 to send their daughter to the finals.

The opening ceremony is on August 13 and the competition concludes on August 23.

Grant Guirey, Chloe’s father, said: “This year is the ultimate. This will be the biggest Thai Boxing competition in Thailand to date.

“Sadly the government does not really get behind us in this sport at the moment so all but a few hundred quid is paid by the gym and it is just beyond us.

“It is hoped it will be a demo sport in the next Olympic Games and then fully accepted in the one after that so it is very exciting times ahead. We aim to have the Best of British talent at the forefront of it.”

It doesn’t leave the Guirey family much time to raise the funds but they are determined to do it and help other British competitors raise money as well.

They will be doing fundraising events which include hosting a Liam ‘the Hitman’ Harrison seminar.

“He is multi-world champion and one of the most rated fighters ever produced from the UK and he will be coming down from Leeds to do a seminar for us,” Grant Guirey revealed.

At the moment £220 has been raised but the money is due in just over a month. They also need expenses to be able to take the squad up to Manchester for squad training.

Grant Guirey has been asked to be one of the UK coaches assisting at the Championships taking place during that weekend in Manchester. Now they need to find business sponsors that want to appear nationally on their fight gear and a corporate sponsor is required for t-shirts too.
