Younger brother of driver Bobby Thompson shows talent runs in the family

Romford racer Aaron Thompson was celebrating last weekend after winning the 2015 BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championships.

After triumphing in the first race at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, he only needed to place inside the top eight in the final showdown of the campaign to claim the title.

And he finished third to secure another podium place as well as the Championships following a wonderful season.

The weekend started well for Thompson who set the fastest practise time, before he claimed second in qualifying.

During Saturday’s race, the Romford youngster waited for his time to strike and passed Michael Higgs on lap 14 before stretching his lead to three seconds and cruising home to earn his eighth success of the year, which meant he only needed to finish in the top eight on Sunday.

Although Thompson started on pole, he fell down to third by the end of the first lap.

He didn’t panic, however, and remained in the leading pack and comfortably brought the car home in third to seal his championship.

It was thoroughly deserved for the Romford racer after winning eight of the 16 races.

Thompson used all his knowledge from last year to good effect and will now move on to pastures new.

It is believed that the Romford man will take part in the Jam-Sport Fiesta Championships next season, but for the time being he can reflect on a wonderful second campaign.
