Romford’s Falcon Kickboxing club had two fighters enjoy success on the 1,700 capacity sell out EBA promotion at Brentwood Leisure centre.
First up and early on was Team Falcon’s young rising star Freddie Fisher in an IKF British title fight under Muay Thai rules.
After a late change of opponent the rule set changed from Freddie’s preferred K1 kickboxing rules to Muay Thai but it didn’t faze Fisher who also has some Muay Thai experience.
The youngsterwas facing Birmingham’s Mikiel Nawaz – an experienced Muay Thai fighter with an impressive 30 win and three loss record.
Both young fighters started well with the clinch work favouring Nawaz, but the kicks and counter strikes favouring Fisher.
Both fighters struck back and forth with some excellent technical ability and a high volume of kicking throughout the five-round contest, but it was Falcon’s Fisher who took the win after taking the judges to a split decision to become IKF British Muay Thai champion.
Later in the evening it was the turn of Team Falcon’s Sarah Worsfold, who was fighting for the IKF Professional K1 Kickboxing rules European title against the UK’s number-one ranked fighter Claire Clements from Newcastle.
The highly-anticipated professional bout was set for five three-minute rounds.
Both women came into the fight with great records behind them, with Worsfold holding numerous kickboxing titles and Clements also with an array of Muay Thai titles.
Worsfold took the fight to Clements in her usual powerful style and was punishing the lead leg of Clements with powerful low kicks.
Clements used her extra reach well on the shorter Wosfold with a piercing jab, but Worsfold was always ready to move in a reply with heavy hands of her own.
Clements suffered a cut over the eye at the end of the third round, but appeared unfazed by the injury.
And after five hard rounds it was Worsfold who was given a unanimous points victory.
Both Falcon fighters will now be looking to progress to even bigger challenges.
Team Falcon’s Gareth Evans travels to Lincolnshire to take on local fighter Ry Vickers for the vacant ISKA British Full Contact Kickboxing title this weekend.
