The Labour Party has selected Ivana Bartoletti to stand as its candidate for Havering and Redbridge in next year’s London Assembly elections.

The Italian-born 35-year-old, who lives in Hackney, moved to the UK six years ago and became a British citizen earlier this year.

Ms Bartoletti, who works for NHS Protect and is chairwoman of the Fabian Women’s Network, stood as a candidate in the European elections in 2014.

Tweeting about her candidacy today, she said she felt “honoured” by her selection.

The boroughs’ current assembly member, Conservative Roger Evans has announced he will not be standing again in the elections.

The Tories will choose their candidate for the seat next month.
