The staff and students at a Hornchurch school that was under special measures are celebrating after the conditions have been lifted.

Wykeham Primary School, in Rainsford Way, is out of special measures after a recent Ofsted inspection.

Interim executive headteacher Jacqueline Treacy said: “We are pleased that our efforts have been recognised in such a positive way.

“However we are not complacent and will continue to work hard to make the school outstanding which will lead to an even better learning experience for our children.”

The decision to lift the conditions earlier than normal came after inspectors imposed meausres in November 2009.

The inspectors praised the school for the improvements that had been made and recognised the achievement and hard work of the staff and senior leaders.

The report also praised the staff for successfully establishing higher expectatiosn with pupils.

Cabinet member for children and learning, Cllr Paul Rochford, said: “Well done to the staff for all their hard work to ensure the school came out of speicla measures as soon as possible.

“The headteacher and staff at Wykeham Primary have taken on the challenge and made a range of improvements which will benefit the children, ensuring their education remains the highest priority.”

A permanet new headteacher has been appointed to take up leadership of the school.

Mahrukh Kapitia-Mistry will join the school in January 2012.
