KFC has announced it will start work on its latest restaurant and drive–through in the autumn.

The fast food outlet is due to demolish the former pub, The Plough, in Colchester Road, Gallows Corner, to make way for the new restaurant and will create 45 new jobs.

The pub was damaged after a blaze in April 2011 which destroyed half of the ground floor and 75 per cent of the roof.

The plans to demolish the building and create the new building, with 38 spaces were approved at Havering Council’s regulatory services committee last month.

A spokesman for KFC said: “The new restaurant will create approximately 45 career opportunities in the Romford area, and building work will begin in the autumn.

“KFC can be a positive addition to any community, and we’re always happy to listen to any questions that local residents might have.

“We have addressed concerns raised during the consultation process and will be installing acoustic fencing between the restaurant and neighbouring residential properties, as well as allowing TFL to adopt part of site to widen and extend the local cycle path network.”
