Beloved dogs and their owners enjoyed walking and mingling with other pets and dog lovers as they raised money for good causes.

The Romford Retired Greyhound Owners Association, based in Hornchurch, and the Essex Wildlife Trust welcomed more than 100 pooches to its Woofs and Walkes event at Hornchurch Country Park yesterday.

Retired Greyhound Owners Association spokesman Graeme Turner said: “This was our first sponsored dog walk at this location so we were happy with the number of dogs and people the event attracted and everyone had a great time.”

After embracing the 2.5 mile walk, pets and their owners were welcomed to the Ingrebourne Valley Centre where they received refreshments, goody bags full of dog treats and something delicious to eat from the barbecue.

Education and community officer at Essex Wildlife Trust Becky Gibson said: “Hornchurch Country Park is extremely popular with dog walkers and it was great to put on our first event just for them.

“It was lovely to see such a wide range of dog breeds enjoying the park on a led walk and for owners to explore a new route around the park.”
