A woman had a lucky escape after her car caught alight in Romford.

The woman was able to flee the blue Ford Fiesta without any injury after the incident today (Monday January 9) at around 3pm in Victoria Road.

Firefighters from Hornchurch were called to the incident and it took them an hour to put the blaze out and to make the area safe.

A spokesman for the fire brigade said: “She did exactly what we would advise people to do in that situation.

“She was driving and she saw smoke coming out of the car, but she pulled over and was able to get out safely.”
