A woman has died after being hit by a train at Romford train station.

British Transport Police were called to the station at 5.50pm yesterday.

Paramedics and fire crews were also in attendance but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have said the death is currently being treated as “non-suspicious”.

A British Transport Police spokesman said a file is now being prepared for a coroner.

One commuter who wished to remain anonymous and was standing on platform three at the time of the tragic incident described it as “horrific” and “one of the worst things they had ever seen”.

The train involved was running from London Liverpool Street to Norwich.
