Winners in Havering Museum’s ‘Spooky Havering’ comp receive prizes from local businesses

The winners of Havering Museum’s “Spooky Havering” picture and story competitions received prizes donated by local businesses at a presentation ceremony on Saturday (November 3).

Talented youngster Grace Charnick took first prize in the children’s picture competition with her spooky pastel scene showing Nellie Asbo, the Raphael Park Witch. The Gidea Park Primary School pupil, seven, won a family fun ticket to Romford play centre Kidspace.

Meanwhile, in the adults’ category, Peter Owen won first prize with his photograph “Towards the Light”, and received two tickets to a show at the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch.

Marzena Haizel, aged 10, from Pinewood School, won first prize in the kids’ story category for “The Unexpected Death”. She was given a family bowling ticket for Namco Funscape.

Kelly Chapman, 12, received a digital camera from Denis Astbury-Smith of T & B Photographic Services Ltd for her winning entry to the older children’s story category, “The Ghost of 1968”.

And Ian Selby’s “The Tale of Two Men” won gold in the adult story category, earning him a meal for two at Zizzi in The Brewery.

Runners-up in the various categories received prizes ranging from a personalised canvas from Kiss Chase designs to family cinema tickets.

The children’s pictures were judged by Robbie Quantrill of Rainham firm QB Photography and Recorder reporter Ramzy Alwakeel, while the adults’ entries were judged by Robbie along with Denis Astbury-Smith of TB Photographic, based at Romford’s The Brewery.

Recorder man Ramzy and QB’s Robbie also judged the two children’s Hallowe’en fiction categories.
