Rodney Marsh quizzed his Twitter followers to guess where he was in Upminster

Social media users were surprised last night to see the ex-England international posting pictures of Upminster.

Rodney Marsh, who now lives in Florida, posted a selfie of him outside Italian restaurant Sorrento, in Station Road, and asked his 81,000 followers to identify where he was.

Several people correctly guessed, although one person cheekily suggested he was with a bad photographer.

He later promised to post more photographs of his holiday trip for people to identify, in return for a £100 gift card.

Franco Russo, the owner and manager of Sorrento, said he had no idea Rodney had promoted the restaurant on Twitter.

He said: “He has family friends in the area and has been in a couple of times before.

“He’s a very friendly guest but I had no idea he mentioned us.

“I only really use Facebook so I’ll have to get someone else to show me how to see it!”
