Weekly recycling will be starting in Brentwood after a successful bid by the council for government funding.

The new collections, which are expected to start next summer, will be changed from weekly to fortnightly after feedback from residents.

Cllr Tony Sleep, chairman of the environment panel, said: “From summer next year, subject to council approval, we will be delivering an even better recycling service for the orange sacks.

“You have told us you want more opportunities to recycle and we will be providing these with a weekly recycling collection service for dry waste.

“We will also be making other improvements; we will be explaining more about how residents can take part in recycling; working with parish councils to promote recycling and using new tools to improve how we serve residents, such as in-cab technology that will help us quickly deal with any missed collections.”

Leader of Brentwood Council, Cllr Louise McKinlay, said: “It’s recognition from government of our excellent waste and recycling service that they have given us a grant to enable us to make the service more frequent. And it is responsive to the wishes of residents to make more frequent collections. That’s the way we do business – excellent services that are responsive and meets residents’ wishes.
