A yellow weather warning is in place across greater London with freezing temperatures forecast.
The Met Office has issued a cold weather alert as the likelihood of sub-zero temperatures is between 70 and 80 per cent.
It has warned that prolonged periods of cold weather can be dangerous, especially for the young, old or those with chronic diseases.
Forecasters are predicting temperatures will increase towards the end of this week.
