It was a very happy new year for a grandmother who won the final Saint Francis Hospice lottery draw of 2013.
Jacqueline Norris, 79, of Doddinghurst, Brentwood, scooped the £1,000 weekly first prize on December 27, and admitted it was the first time she had ever won a lottery.
“I wouldn’t describe myself as a lucky person with things like this, although I’m lucky in other ways with three sons and nine grand-children!” said Jacqueline.
The former Rise Park resident signed up to the lottery competition after having a friend who worked there.
“My husband has also lost a couple of sisters to cancer so we thought the hospice was a worthy local cause to support.” she added.
Esther Preston, hospice marketing manager, said: “Every year our nurses make around 5,000 home visits and thanks to our regular players like Jacqueline we can continue to offer excellent care to patients and their families affected by a life-limiting illness.”
