Residents interested in meeting new people, exploring green spaces, and improving their health are welcome to join a new Upminster walking group.

The “Walk and Talk” group meet once a week and everyone is welcome to join, said organiser Tricia Butler.

She said: “It’s great fun and a really good way to exercise.

“We walk for about an hour and it’s completely free.

“It started last year but tailed off so I decided to get it going again.

“12 people turned up last week and 13 this week so it’s steadily growing!”

The routes are between three and three and a half miles and are open to people of all abilities.

Tricia said: “We walk and talk and shift a few pounds at the same time.

“In the future, we’re hoping that we can get up to covering five miles on a walk.

“I’m very keen on building community spirit and this is a great way to get to know people.

“It’s not just for people who live in Upminster, you can be from anywhere in the borough.

“In the future, we’re hoping to complete some charity walks and maybe increase our regular walks to twice a week.”
