CCTV stills showing the man police want to talk to after a retired firefighter was forced to wrestle control of his stolen car from a thief, have been released this week.

Have-a-go-hero Barry Monaghan, from Hornchurch, battled a carjacker who had taken his purple Ford Mondeo from outside a shop in Corbets Tey Road, Upminster, on Thursday April 12.

The 60-year-old had clung to the open boot of his car as the thief drove off in it.

He was dragged half a mile, before managing to haul himself into the car and grabbing the bandit around the neck - eventually forcing him to pull over in South Ockendon, Essex.

Anyone who recognises the man in the images, or has any knowledge of this matter, is urged to contact Det Con Dean Grafton at Romford CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
