A woman has been arrested for drink-driving after a crash on the A12 that left a 22-year-old in hospital.

The incident happened near the junction with Heather Avenue at about 8.20am. Three cars were involved – a black Nissan Micra, a red VW Polo and a silver Ford Ka, which overturned onto its roof.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were on the scene and the 22-year-old woman was taken to Queen’s Hospital, Romford, with back pain.

Two other people declined treatment.

One lane is now open eastbound on the A12 from Heather Avenue, but a partial road closure following the crash has caused significant disruption and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

The woman was arrested at the scene.
