More woes for commuters after strike

Queues of hopeful commuters who had walked or bussed it into work on Monday morning built up at some stations last night as the strike ended at 6.30pm.

But many faced more woes on Tuesday with delays on both the District and Central lines.

It followed the walkout by thousands of RMT and TSSA union members on Sunday over the planned loss of around 800 ticket office jobs.

The war of words between union leaders, transport bosses and London Mayor, Boris Johnson, continues with no end to the dispute in sight and two further strike set for November.

Mr Johnson called the action puerile, while TfL claimed 40 per cent of trains had run and union leader Bob Crow disputed the figures.

“The first casualty of war is always the truth,” he said.
