Havering residents are among many across the country remembering and paying tribute to former darts world champion Eric Bristow, who used to own a pub in Collier Row.

The five times world champion – known as the ‘Crafty Cockney’ – used to own the Double Top pub in Collier Row Road, that was later renamed the White Hart.

Bristow won five World Masters titles and was a founder player when the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) was formed in 1993.

He was awarded an MBE for his services to sport in 1989.

He also worked as a TV pundit and appeared on ITV show I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here in 2012.

The 60-year-old died on Thursday (April 5) after collapsing at the Echo Arena in Liverpool where the latest round of the PDC Premier League was being held.

Former Romford resident Graham Booth told the Recorder that he remembers Eric and said that his aunty used to play darts in the pub.

He said: “Just seen the news about Eric Bristow. Used to chew the fat with him in his pub in Collier Row years ago. RIP The Crafty Cockney.

“Crikey now you’re asking. I was a nipper, my aunt used to play darts there. Must’ve been early 80’s. Pub changed its name to The White Hart.

“I do remember him in there along with Keith Deller (who I think lived in the area at the time).”
