Traffic on the A13 is at a standstill after a HGV crash near the junction with Renwick Road, Barking.
Congestion is extending back to the M25 in the east, while the 174 bus route is on diversion.
It is not yet known whether anyone was hurt in the crash, which is understood to have happened on the westbound carriageway at about 5.30am.
The lane has now been reopened but drivers are still advised to avoid the area.
