Stars of The Only Way is Essex led the way in paying tribute to Nanny Pat on social media after she died this morning following a short illness.

Pat Brooker, best known as Nanny Pat, has been a beloved member of the ITVBe show, known for her cackling laugh, mischievous smile and her famous sausage plait since the show began in 2010.

The grandmother of Mark and Jessica Wright celebrated her 80th birthday last month with a royal-themed party where all of the cast were invited to dress up and enjoy a night of fun.

Elliot Wright, Nanny Pat’s grandson and former Towie star, took to twitter to vent his feelings.

He said: “Thank you for you kind supportive words.

“She was an angel an will be sorely missed she wasn’t just nanny pat to us she was to the nation.”

Ricky Rayment, who has been in the show for three years, tweeted: “My heart goes out to all the Wrights...having to say goodbye to a truly incredible lady”.

Fellow cast member Chloe Sims says she is “devastated” while Harry Derbidge and Gemma Collins have described her as a “legend” and “a wonderful lady”.

Celebrities have also taken to Twitter to express their sadness at the news including showbiz journalist Dan Wooton.

He said: “ Oh no, Nanny Pat. A reality TV legend and adorable woman. Thoughts with the Wrights today, horrible horrible news.”

Presenter Rylan Clark also said: “Such a lovely woman. Love to the family”.
