TfL’s plan to replace a bridge will force drivers to go through an accident blackspot for more than a year.

Ardleigh Green Bridge – which carries the A127 Southend Arterial Road – is due to be demolished and replaced later this year as part of TfL’s Road Modernisation Plan.

But work on the bridge will mean the closure of Bryant Avenue, Harold Wood, for more than 12 months so drivers will have little choice but to use Gallows Corner as their alternative route.

Cllr Alex Donald, of the Harold Wood, Hill, Park Residents’ Association, said: “While it’s important for TfL to carry out necessary bridge replacement works to make way for Crossrail, this must be done in such a way that causes as minimum disruption as possible to the local area.

“It is a major concern that residents will have to drive through Gallows Corner and something we will bring up with TfL.”
