A devoted daughter is shaving off her hair in Elm Park tomorrow in a display of solidarity with her mother, who is suffering from breast cancer.
Kelly Stubbington, 16, from Hawkinge Way, Hornchurch, will shed her locks at the Hair Design salon in Elm Park Avenue at 4pm.
She has already raised over £1,300 for Cancer Research UK, beating her modest target of £200.
Kelly’s mum Sarah, 47, who has just begun her second bout of chemotherapy, has already lost her hair and was diagnosed with cancer in April.
Kelly said: “Before she was diagnosed I spoke about doing it, but I was never really sure.
“I told her there was no way I was going to let her do it by herself.”
The former Sanders Draper School pupil has another personal reason for fundraising, as her aunt lost a battle with cancer in 2005.
Kelly added: “I didn’t expect to raise that much money, it was quite a surprise to be honest.
“I’m going to keep my fundraising page up for a while to see how far I can get.
“I’m not nervous at the moment, but I’ve been counting down the days.”
