Teenager injured in Roneo Corner hit-and-run bike smash

THE FAMILY of a teenager injured in a “hit-and-run” crash this week are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Glen Murphy, 16, of Sheringham Avenue, Romford, came off his scooter in Hornchurch Road, near the junction with Roneo Corner and Roneo Link, on Tuesday after being in collision with a red and black BMW motorbike at around 1.30pm.
Glen tried to phone his father Michael, 52, who was working at the time in Collier Row, but could not reach him so called his older brother Stephen, 25, instead.
Michael, from Dagenham, said: “I got a call from my older boy to say Glen had come off his bike.
“He was on a scooter, a bigger bike took him out and rode off.”
“I went straight there. I phoned the ambulance service. It kept telling me do not hang up, but I left it in the end and took him myself. He was standing there in pain.”
The former Sanders Drapers School pupil, who has been working for his father’s bricklaying company since leaving school, had only been riding for five months.
It was his day off and he was riding to a friend’s house in Upminster when the incident happened.
Michael said: “He fractured his arm and had to have a metal plate put in it. Luckily he had a helmet on so his face and head weren’t injured.”
He also had some bruising and cuts on the back of his legs where he came off his Gilera Runner Scooter 50cc, which was also damaged.
Both Havering Police and the London Ambulance Service said they had no record of a call being made at the time of the crash.
A Havering Police spokesman said: “A police incident request has been issued to the family and once received the incident will be investigated.”
In the meantime the family are keen for any witnesses to come forward with information which can be handed over to police when the investigation is officially opened.
