A 19-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Ricky Hayden.

Tommy Roome, of Rams Grove, Romford, was also charged with the attempted murder of Ricky’s father Paul.

He will appear in custody at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

Two other teenagers were arrested on suspicion of murder last Wednesday, September 14. A 19-year-old has been bailed to return later this month, pending further enquiries, and a 16-year-old has been eliminated from the enquiry.

Ricky, was killed after he and his dad confronted a gang trying to steal a moped outside their home in Gibbfield Close, Chadwell Heath, in the early hours of Tuesday last week.

The 27-year-old, who worked at Kosho in Romford, died later that night.

Paul, 46, has since been released from hospital.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for the public’s help to trace a moped that was used by the suspects.

The moped is described as silver or grey, with a large dark coloured box on the rear.

It is believed that the suspects arrived and left the scene on this moped.
