CARE Home residents will get to enjoy the ancient but often neglected art of live story-telling as part of a national celebration.

School children and other volunteers are to pay a visit to Havering Court Nursing Home in Havering Road for National Storytelling Week between January 29 and February 5.

The event aims to promote links between reading and well-being and is being backed by Bupa and the Reader Organisation charity.

Residents in 35 Greater London Bupa’s care homes will be reading and will hear extracts from “A Little, Aloud”, an especially chosen collection of short stories and poems.

Bupa community manager Siobhan Drane said: “Storytelling is one of the oldest and most loved pastimes there is.

“It captures imaginations and really helps stimulate thoughts and memories.

“Everyone is very welcome to join us for Storytelling Week, whether that’s to listen to old tales, read a story out loud or write a poem to share with us.”

The week is in its 11th year and is organised by the Society for Storytelling and almost 300 care homes are hosting events to support it throughout the UK.

Anyone interested in attending or taking part should call 0845 600 4622 or email storytellingweek@bupa.com
