Older residents are being offered the chance to take a trip down memory lane at two interactive heritage events organised by the council.

The reminiscence events are open to all Havering residents over 55 and will be held at Hornchurch’s William Tansley Smith House, in Hacton Lane, on February 23 and Garrick House, in Adelphi Crescent, on March 3.

People will be able to explore the area’s history through pictures, films and music and their memories and anecdotes will be recorded for a project funded by City Bridge Trust.

Eastside Community Heritage will help facilitate the event and their project officer, Paul Beard, can’t wait to hear peoples’ tales from yesteryear.

“We are looking forward to welcoming as many local people as possible so we can hear their memories about Havering,” said Paul.

Cllr Damian White, cabinet member for housing, said the borough has a rich history which the project hopes to tap into through the memories of older residents.

“We want them to share those anecdotes and these events with Eastside Community Heritage is an ideal opportunity for us to hear these tales and record them for posterity,” said Cllr White.

“We are hoping that when the project is finished we will have a record that can be kept in Havering’s Local Studies and Family History Centre, based at the Central Library in Romford so future generations of Havering citizens can hear these memories.”
